Just Married: Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross

Pop royalty Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross are married!

Following a slight rain delay, the couple tied the knot on Sunday night in a private ceremony, according to E! News. Simpson’s bridal party included sister Jessica Simpson, who served as maid of honor. Bronx, her son from her previous marriage to Pete Wentz, walked her down the aisle. Simpson and Ross first went public in July 2013. After which, the pair was spotted going out with Bronx, as well as going on double dates with Jessica and her then-fiancé (now husband) Eric Johnson.

According to E!, Ross popped the question with a Neil Lane ring while they were on vacation in January.

Be it if you are looking for something sexy for your wedding night, or if you are just looking to add some spice to your current relationship, this beautiful collaboration collection of lingerie from Intimately Free People x For Love and Lemons will definitely appeal to you.

The folks behind Free People are the same ones who brought us the much-loved brand Urban Outfitters. With Free People, the team was looking at a more matured and contemporary aesthetic (as opposed to Urban Outfitters). This is how founder Dick Hayne describes the Free People girl:

“[She is] a 26-year-old girl, smart, creative, confident and comfortable in all aspects of her being, free and adventurous, sweet to tough to tomboy to romantic. A girl who likes to keep busy and push life to its limits, with traveling and hanging out and everything in between. Who loves Donovan as much as she loves The Dears, and can’t resist petting any dog that passes her by on the street.”

With this exclusive fall collection that is a collaboration with Los Angeles-based brand For Love & Lemons modelled by the gorgeous Marloes Horst, Free People brings us a sexy and romantic take on lingerie with its tastefully done sheer panels, high-waisted cuts, and exquisite robes.

As they all say, you’ll look good in anything you feel good in, and these beautiful pieces from Intimately Free People x For Love and Lemons will be sure to play the part.

Steal the look of… Tang Wei

On our blog, we often share inspirations about how to make your big day closer to perfection. We also absolutely love sharing happy news about celebrities and/or famous personalities who have tied the knot and moved on to the next stage in life.

And on the list of famous newlyweds as of late, is Chinese actress Tang Wei (汤唯). (If you missed our entry on that, click here!) Certainly a sight to behold in her wedding photos with South Korean director Kim Tae Yong, we want to furnish you with some ideas on how you can make her look yours.

The look: Decked in a classic white Vera Wang gown, the 34-year-old kept it simple by letting her luscious black hair down with minimal jewellery.

Make it yours: If sweet heart necklines are your cup of tea, here’s our selection of similar designs!

Lifestyle: Butter Studio

For someone who is just casually passing through Jalan Besar, one might just miss Butter Studio altogether. Located right beside a motorcycle repair shop, and swathed with green from the cafe’s potted plants outside, one will have to pay special attention to its yellow signboard to know that the cafe is located there.

The good thing about Butter Studio though, is its unpretentious surroundings — the shop’s furniture consists of deliberately mismatched tables and chairs and gives off an incredibly casual and homely vibe. Once inside, you can take your pick from the cafe’s wide range of cakes and pastries, which include anything from rainbow cakes to macarons. The cafe is also apparently popular with its own neighbourhood, as we noticed a number of elderly guests who walked in to take away some cakes when we were there.

In a saturated local cafe scene, Butter Studio might not appear to be a stand out pick among the crowd, but we definitely appreciate a pleasant and down-to-earth environment for a good afternoon catch up with friends, or simply, to chill out with our other half. Good news for our Muslim couples too — Butter Studio is a halal cafe.

Lifestyle: Singapore Night Festival & The Local People Night Market

If you’re wondering about what to do this weekend, be sure not to miss out on the last weekend of the Singapore Night Festival 2014. While you’re at it, show your love and support for our local artists and designers at The Local People Night Market, which is held in conjunction with the Singapore Night Festival, along Queen Street near Singapore Art Museum.

Singapore Night Festival 2014

The much-loved Singapore Night Festival is in its seventh year of running, and shows no signs of slowing down. With a theme of “Bold and Beautiful” this year, the Singapore Night Festival is set to bring you an array of dazzling, wild, and loud performances to create a multisensory experience for festival-goers.

Headlining this year’s festival is William Close’s Earth Harp that will transform the façade of the National Museum of Singapore into the largest stringed instrument in Singapore. Inspired by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s quote, “architecture is frozen music”, Earth Harp is an installation-performance that is guaranteed to take your breath away.

Those of you who have attended past editions of the Singapore Night Festival will recall the spectacular night installations that dress up the museums’ façades. Thankfully, this crowd favourite, Night Lights, will once again return in this year’s festival. What is different is that this year, the installation will feature a first-time collaboration with DesignSingapore Council and contributions by the students from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

The Local People Night Market

The Local People is an online platform that seeks to showcase our own homegrown creative talents as an antithesis to mass-produced products that flood the retail market nowadays. In conjunction with the Singapore Night Festival, The Local People has put together a night market on 30 August 2014 (Sat) showcasing the work of a diverse group of local artists and designers. We foresee that you’ll be needing to keep a close eye on your wallet (and not just because of pickpockets in the crowd).

Catching amazing free performances at the Singapore Night Festival and shopping till you drop at the same time — if that doesn’t sound like a grand game plan to kickstart your weekend, we don’t know what else will.

Just Married: Yvonne Lim

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you’ll know that the latest news that’s got the local entertainment industry buzzing is actress Yvonne Lim’s upcoming nuptials to former Mandopop boyband member, Alex Tien!

The photogenic couple, who is also expecting their first child (congrats!), recently unveiled their dreamy wedding photos, which had Yvonne posing in several gorgeous form-fitting gowns against various romantic backdrops. The wedding photos were taken at Taiwanese celebrity Jia Yongjie’s bridal boutique, CH Wedding in Taipei. Jia Yongjie is also a good friend of Alex’s.

The couple is slated to hold their wedding in September at the swanky Ritz Carlton Hotel. Yvonne and Alex had revealed that they will only be holding one wedding dinner, so Alex’s family and friends will be flying in from Taiwan for the happy occasion. In an interview with xinmsn, Yvonne said, “They are welcomed to bring their family members with them too. We will definitely play our parts as hosts and make sure they’ve had their share of local food and sightseeing. It will be a large gathering for everyone to relax and have fun.”

We’re definitely looking forward to a star-studded and beautiful wedding ceremony for the couple! Wedding & Travel will definitely be keeping you updated with the latest from Yvonne and Alex’s wedding, so keep checking back!

Beauty: Braids, Braids, Braids!

Braids, braids, braids! Far from being a plain old hairstyle that has been around for a long time, braids have been reinventing themselves with every season’s runway, and we just can’t get enough! Today, we round up these beautiful braided hairstyles from Pinterest to add to your inspiration wall for your wedding hair! Enjoy!

Fishtail Braid

A tidy fishtail braid (picture above) will have the bride looking fresh, young and girly, while a more tousled fishtail braid (picture below) will give a more romantic and sexy look. (Pictures from Pinterest and Pinterest)

The best hair accessory to create that bohemian bride vibe is none other than flowers in your hair! Go for a flower crown (picture above) if you’re looking for something more rustic and dramatic. For understated beauties, weave small flowers in your hair for just a touch of whimsy (picture below)! (Pictures from Pinterest and Pinterest)

For brides with long voluminous hair, why not go for multiple fishtail braids? The mermaid vibe of this hairstyle is perfect for an outdoor beach wedding, we say! (Picture from Pinterest)

Updos with Braids

An elegant chignon is one of our favourite hairstyles for weddings; these braided hairstyles bring some new interest to the timeless chignon and give the best of both worlds! Channel Taylor Swift’s nostalgic bohemian vibe by pairing the look with a red lip (picture below). (Pictures from Pinterest and Pinterest)

Who says an updo has to be all clean and neat? Not only do these soft braided updos look effortlessly chic, they also bring the right touch of romance to your look. (Pictures from Pinterest and Pinterest)

We’re loving this adorable braided updo that is quite unlike the others we’ve seen — for a cuter finish, arrange the braids on the top of your head so that they come across like a crown! (Picture from Pinterest)

Waterfall Braids

Be it sleek or messy, there is no better hairstyle than the waterfall braid to project a more grown up bohemian look. While the former gives a girly and feminine feel, the latter (with its flyaway hair) gives a wilder and more casual feel. (Pictures from Pinterest and Pinterest)

Shake things up by using some new techniques for your waterfall braid! Create a side waterfall braid for a “choppier” feel to inject more interest in the look. Otherwise, make full use of your fringe to create a crown! (Pictures from Pinterest and Pinterest)

Crowdsourced Fairytale Wedding

We’ve heard of crowdsourced books and various creative projects, but today we came across this touching crowdsourced wedding, which gave 28-year-old bride, Megan Wolfe her fairytale wedding. Megan was informed in March this year that she had contracted stomach cancer and had only one more year to live.

After receiving news of her illness, Megan had neither the means or time to plan her wedding. Fortunately, family, friends and generous strangers stepped forward to provide support and help materialise her wedding. In total, she received more than $15,000 worth of goods and services, which included her wedding dress, wedding venue, limousine, bridesmaids’ dresses, hotel suite, and so on.

Megan said after the wedding, “I feel very thankful to everyone for everything they did. It brings tears to my eyes. It is way more than I expected. This is my dream.”

Megan’s wedding was made possible with the help of GozAround, a new online crowdsourcing platform. Co-founder Ben Block said, “I think this will be one of those things that we’ll look back on for many years. I think there is something powerful about helping a couple.”

With the world becoming a smaller place with the help of Internet, sometimes we find that dreams are no longer unachievable, and as long as there is a worthy cause, it will find an audience among the kind-hearted people in the world. Our heartfelt congrats to Megan!
