David Tao’s grand and star-studded wedding

It wasn’t too long ago when W&T ran a piece on his lovely wedding photos taken in the Philippines and now Mandopop King David Tao has finally married his girlfriend Penny Jiang in a grand affair on Aug 31.

The morning ceremony: First came a gold Lamborghini. Seven luxury cars followed, including five Rolls-Royces and a white Bentley. Riding in the Bentley was 45-year-old Tao, who picked up his bride in style on Sunday. The fleet was prepared by the bride’s businessman father, and the cars were worth about NT$200 million, according to Taiwanese media.

The wedding: The banquet decor featured a purple theme and the atmosphere was described as heartwarming. The groom performed John Lennon’s Love while holding his bride’s hand and the newly-wed couple later sang Tao’s love ballad Marry Me Today. The luxurious 55-table banquet held at 6-star Mandarin Oriental Taipei reportedly cost Tao NT$6 million.

The guests: Apart from being luxurious, the wedding was also a star-studded event as Mandopop’s biggest stars Jay Chou, Wang Leehom, JJ Lin and Jam Hsiao showed up. Taiwanese media said guests were generous with wedding angbaos which amounted to nearly NT$600 million. A currency-counting machine was even spotted at the banquet’s reception area, reportedly provided by the hotel.

Among the guests, all attention was on Jay Chou who admitted to China’s Sina that he was doing research for his upcoming wedding with model Hannah Quinlivan, which could take place before his 36th birthday in January next year. Leehom Wang and his wife Li Jinglei also made their first public appearance after the birth of their daughter in July.
