At last month’s New York Bridal Week, Naeem Khan received much attention for his widely-anticipated 2014 Fall/Winter bridal collection. The 55-year-old American fashion designer rolled out a stunning first-ever bridal collection which he described as “a once-in-a-lifetime moment, a once-in-a-lifetime dress”, living up to all hype and expectations.
Known for his elaborate evening gowns that have been donned on by countless famous personalities including Beyonce, Eva Longoria and America’s First Lady Michelle Obama, Khan’s debut attempt with bridal gowns showcased his brilliant taste on elegance.
Featuring a 15-piece all-white collection, with only subtle variations in cream, ivory and vanilla with touches of metallic silver, several designs in the collection are strapless or off-shoulder. The line also centred upon a most important concept. “For my first bridal collection, I thought about where the modern bride is saying her vows—the city, the garden, and the beach. (So) each of my Fall/Winter 2014 gowns are inspired by cities that feature some of the best venues in the world,” Khan said.
The city dresses are a classy sight. This Art Deco-inspired beaded gown in particular, is a love at first sight.
Utilizing an array of fabrics — chiffon, gazaar, organza and tulle, the garden dresses had on beautiful motifs in lace and embroidery.
There are also pieces that incorporated one of fashion’s latest trend, a patch of see-through across the chest showing just enough skin to be sexy yet appropriate.
We are loving the cultural influences in these pieces. On the left is perhaps the designer’s tribute to his Indian roots and the right is a charming dress exuding timeless Grecian style.
Showing versatility are these bridal pieces that can easily transition over to formal wear at a red carpet event.
