Husband recreates wedding pics with daughter in memory of late wife

“It doesn’t mean that we forget our loved ones, but find ways to remember them and keep that memory going.”

Not your usual wedding photos. This beautiful series of images, that has gone viral online this week, will touch even the hardest of hearts.

Ben Nunery, from Ohio, United States, embarked on a project last month to recreate his wedding pictures, two years after his wife, Ali, passed away. The model he had in mind to take his wife’s place was his 3-year-old daughter, Olivia.

Taken at the Nunery’s home, this set of photos modelled after the original sees the father and daughter pair posing at several locations in the house which in the year 2009, was the site Ben and his late wife Ali used for the taking of their wedding pictures. Now after “two years on a rollercoaster of emotions”, Ben has decided to relocate with Olivia in a bid to start their lives afresh. But not before capturing their first home and its memories on film for one last time.

The photos are taken by Ali’s sister, Pace, a professional photographer who recounts the experience as an overwhelming one. Speaking to, she said she felt Ali’s presence during the shoot. “It’s almost like she was nudging me along as I was shooting, telling me which places to go and what to use as props.”

And for Ben, it was perhaps the best way to say goodbye.

Speaking of the shoot, he said, “It immediately brought up memories of being there the first time. They were really good memories I cherish and want to remember. In a lot of ways, it felt like Ali was there, and doing that with Olivia I felt a closeness with both of them.”

“Many people have asked me how I felt while doing that photo session. What I want them to know is that this isn’t a story about grief and loss and hurt. Yes, I’ve gone through those emotions and still do but that’s not what I want people to see in these photos. This is a story about love.”
