Love is in the air, literally. Jet-setting couple Dottie Coven, 44, and Keith Stewart, 38, conducted their wedding in mid-air on Southwest Airline in front of 141 passengers, majority of whom are strangers who found themselves suddenly guests of this unique wedding.
Coven and Stewart had met via a dating website two years ago, and spend much of their time jetting between cities for work. In fact, the idea to get married in-flight was born when the couple was waiting for a flight in Baltimore! The couple had also accumulated so many miles that they could exchange for 30 tickets for family and friends to witness their union on the flight.
The unique and lighthearted wedding started off on a sweet note as 4-year-old flower girl, Sydney, passed out peanuts soon after the plane completed its take off. Following which, the wedding officiator said with good humour, “We are gathered here today — whether you intended to or not — to celebrate the wedding of Dottie Coven and Keith Stewart.”
“If anyone can show just cause why they may not be lawfully joined together let them push their flight attendant call button now.”
To make things more memorable, the flight was also Southwest’s first non-stop flight from Nashville to Dallas Love Field. How apt is that!
Coven and Stewart will also enjoy a honeymoon to one of Southwest’s latest destinations — Puerto Rico.
