Gone are the days when wedding cakes came in plain, single-dimensional colours and were relegated to a corner at one’s wedding. Today, wedding cakes have taken on an increasingly important role in couple’s weddings as a statement piece to complement the theme and overall venue decoration. If you’re looking for ideas to craft your one-of-a-kind wedding cake, here are three hot trends to get your inspiration flowing!
1. Statement flowers

Statement flowers are not only a good way to instantly pretty up your wedding cake, they’re also extremely helpful to tie in with the colour scheme or theme of your wedding! For a classic and timeless wedding, we love one big simple and elegant statement flower against a pristine white wedding cake. For a garden wedding, take a leaf from lovely pastel shades and springtime blooms when designing your cake! For a more glamorous style, consider opulent shades like royal purple and violet, and bling it up with gold accents.
2. Bridal inspired: lace and ruffles

Another hot trend we love is the bridal-inspired cakes! Rather than fitting in with the venue decoration, more brides are opting to have their wedding cakes echo the design of their wedding dresses. Cue all these feminine and cute wedding cakes that are lace, ruffles and ribbon galore!
3. Runway inspired: ombre and metallic

Of course, this year’s hottest wedding cake trends reflect what’s hot on the fashion runways as well! The two leading trends this year — ombre and metallic — happen to be designs that are on opposite ends of the scale. While the former gives off a more casual and playful vibe, the latter is all about the shine and glamour!
Couples who are young at heart, and are looking to bring a fun vibe to their weddings would likely love the ombre wedding cake. For us, we are so in love with the first ombre wedding cake on top as it incorporates macarons on the sides, which is always a good thing (who doesn’t love macarons?) On the other side, couples who are going for a sophisticated and formal wedding would love the metallic cakes. The weight that metallic accents give to the wedding cake gives it a stately and grand look that recalls the Baroque era!
