A military couple had to change their wedding venue at the request of the White House, officials said on earlier this week. Natalie Heimel and her husband, Edward Mallue Jr., both Army captains, had planned to hold their wedding ceremony on the 16th green of the Marine Base Hawaii golf course on Saturday (December 24).

But U.S. president Barack Obama, who is vacationing on the island, had planned to golf the course at the same time. According to NBC News, the manager of the couple’s catering company had to call the bride-to-be to offer an alternative location with “an even nicer view.”

But as it turned out, the bride and groom weren’t too disappointed because they received a post nuptial-greeting from none other than the president himself.

“Congratulations on your wedding,” the president said in a call following his golf gaffe. “I feel terrible. Nobody told us… I hope the wedding went OK.”

“It was a blessing in disguise,” Mallue replied, according to NBC News.

An administration official said that White House staff didn’t know of the debacle until Bloomberg News, who first reported the story Monday morning, called for a comment, NBC News reported.
