Choose Your Own Venue For Solemnisation

Traditionally, couples have marched up Fort Canning to take their vows at the Registry of Marriages. It is strangely little known that you could also choose to take your vows at a venue, time and date of your choice.

Here are some basic things you need to know if you are solemnising your marriage outside ROM. For more detailed information, check out ROM’s site at

1. You will still need to observe the 21-day notice period, and can only choose dates that are available through ROM.

2. You don’t have to worry about public holidays, weekends or times. As long as the solemniser is available, you can choose the time of your solemnisation. (How about the time you met each other?)

3. Do it through Check their list of licensed solemnisers, invite them, fill in the right forms and there you have your solemniser! Check ROM’s site for more details.

4. You will have to reimburse your solemniser for the service. Again, check ROM for the guided rates.

The best thing about holding your solemnisation in a venue of your choice is that you call the shots for all the decorations, programme and the number of guests. Holding your ceremony at a place that is significant to the both of you, for example, the place of your first date, will be more memorable as well. You can also hold your religious ceremony, traditional rites and wedding party all on the same day!
